The Phantom of Modern Society is part of Rei+’s Reflection collection, a series that explores identity in a world shaped by technology & social media.
The face is divided into two realities. One side feels real and present. The other shifts into a distorted reflection that slowly dissolves into pixels. The grid is not decorative - it represents the digital layer through which we now experience ourselves and others.
The reflection does not fully match the original. It feels slightly off, almost unstable. That subtle misalignment is intentional. Rei+ is interested in the space between who we are and the version that appears on a screen.
The painting asks a simple question: when everything is filtered and edited, what still belongs to us? Who are we?
